Who we are

A neighbourhood association, open to everyone

The non-profit association (ASBL) Espace Multiculturel de Prés-Javais (E.M.P.J.) contributes to the socialisation and personal development of residents of the neighbourhood and surrounding area, turning them into responsible and active citizens.

It invites them to take part in social, economic, cultural and sporting life, encouraging intercultural exchange. Its activities are open to everyone, of any age, of any cultural, ethnic or religious background and from any social category.

A new team since May 2023

It took over the running of the association with four clear goals:

  • Support social and professional integration by learning French.
  • Promote academic success and the development of young people's socio-cultural skills.
  • Promote the well-being and health of residents.
  • Involve young people in neighbourhood life through civic action.

The project

A multicultural neighbourhood centre is on its way

Our current premises are too small and run down. On 13 December 2023, the association bought a building of about 260 m² at Rue Courte 2, to be completely renovated. The plans have been finalised with an architect and planning permission has been granted.

A place for:

  • Youth support
  • Educational activities
  • Homework support
  • Civic projects
  • Social cohesion

What we want to do there

  • Provide a dignified place of worship for the Muslim community, accessible to people with reduced mobility.
  • Create educational, cultural and sports spaces: classrooms, library, multipurpose hall, cafeteria.
  • Promote active citizenship, social cohesion and living together.
  • Offer social services: mediation, administrative help, homework support.

The place will be open to all and will work with the other organisations in the neighbourhood: the neighbourhood committee, schools, shopkeepers.
